The Gosainkunda trek begins from Dhunche, offering spectacular views of the Langtang Himalaya (7245m), Ganesh Himal (7405m), Dorje Lhakpa (6990m), and various smaller peaks in the Langtang range. The trek winds through Langtang National Park, characterized by its diverse topography and climatic conditions. Home to 108 holy lakes, the area features a rich tapestry of cultures, including Tamang, Sherpa, Cherti, and Brahmin communities.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche

The journey to Dhunche, the capital of the Rasuwa district and gateway to Langtang National Park, takes approximately 6-7 hours. Along the way, you’ll pass several well-known towns, offering glimpses of local life and stunning landscapes. Upon arrival, you can settle into your guest house, enjoy a hearty meal, and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Journey from Dhunche to Sing Gompa

After breakfast, the trek to Sing Gompa begins. The trail ascends steeply through rhododendron and pine forests, with chances to spot various bird species and wildlife. The trek takes about 4-5 hours, culminating in the picturesque Sing Gompa, where you can visit a monastery and a famous yak cheese factory operated by the Nepalese government.

Day 3: Journey from Sing Gompa to the Sacred Gosaikunda

Today, you’ll trek towards the holy pond of Gosaikunda. The trail continues to ascend, offering magnificent views of the Annapurna, Manaslu, and Ganesh Himal ranges. After 5-6 hours of hiking, you’ll reach Gosaikunda, a significant pilgrimage site especially popular during the Janaipurnima festival in June.

Day 4: Gosaikunda to Ghopte via Laurebina La

The descent from Gosaikunda begins today, first leading you to the Lauribina La Pass. After crossing this small ridge, the trail descends toward Phedi and continues onward to Ghopte, a charming village with just two tea houses. This section of the trek takes around 7-8 hours and rewards you with stunning mountain views.

Day 5: Trek from Ghopte to Kutumsang

The trek resumes with a challenging ascent and descent over the first 20 minutes before heading toward Tharepati. The area is known for its rich biodiversity, including the elusive red panda. After navigating the steep trails through lush oak and pine forests, you’ll arrive at Kutumsang, a larger village with a variety of lodging and dining options, mainly populated by Tamang people.

Day 6: Trek from Kutumsang to Chisapani

Beginning your day with breakfast, you’ll descend through the forest towards Gulbhangang, followed by an uphill trek through various villages and terraced fields. The trek to Chisapani takes about 6-7 hours. The small village offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain ranges, making it an ideal spot to rest and enjoy the scenery.

Day 7: Trek from Chisapani to Sundarijal and Return to Kathmandu

On your final day, you’ll trek toward Shivapuri National Park, reaching the hilltop after an hour’s climb. The descent to Sundarijal takes you past more breathtaking landscapes and wildlife sightings. Upon arrival in Sundarijal, you’ll complete your trek and head back to Kathmandu, where you can reflect on the beautiful memories created during your adventure.
