Your adventure begins as we gather at our hotel for an orientation meeting. In the afternoon, we’ll delve into New Delhi’s rich history. Our first stop will be Humayun’s Tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage Site crafted by his widow, Hamida Banu Begam. We’ll also drive past notable colonial structures, including the vast grounds of Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House, and the iconic India Gate, a tribute to World War I soldiers. The evening is yours to enjoy at leisure.
After breakfast, our exploration continues at the Jama Masjid, India’s largest mosque. We’ll wander through the bustling streets of Old Delhi and experience the vibrant Kinari Bazar, with the option of a rickshaw ride (additional cost). Our journey culminates at Jama Masjid, where we’ll learn about its fascinating history. By early afternoon, we’ll depart for the Pink City, Jaipur, a drive lasting around five to seven hours.
Enjoy a full day of exploration in Jaipur, famed for its stunning architecture and rich culture. Our first stop is the City Palace, once home to the Maharaja and now a museum showcasing royal artifacts. Next, we’ll visit Jantar Mantar, an observatory housing remarkable astronomical instruments, and the stunning Hawa Mahal, known as the Palace of the Winds. Finally, we’ll venture to the Amber Palace, a majestic fort with exquisite courtyards and intricate interiors. The evening is free for you to explore Jaipur’s vibrant handicraft scene.
Today, we make our way to Agra, with a visit to the abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri en route. This former Mughal capital, constructed under Emperor Akbar’s reign, showcases stunning red sandstone architecture and reflects his cultural vision. After exploring this atmospheric site, we’ll continue to Agra.
Rise early for an unforgettable sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal, a breathtaking tribute to love built by Shah Jahan for his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Marvel at its ethereal beauty as the sun rises, illuminating the intricate details of the white marble. Following this, we’ll visit the Red Fort of Agra, an imposing structure filled with history. In the evening, we’ll board an overnight train to Varanasi, experiencing the famous Indian railway system.
Upon arrival in Varanasi, we’ll transfer to our hotel, although rooms may not be ready until midday. In the afternoon, we’ll visit Sarnath, the site of Buddha’s first sermon, where the Dhamekh Stupa stands as a significant monument. The evening is yours to unwind.
As one of Hinduism’s holiest cities, Varanasi teems with pilgrims and spirituality. We’ll explore the winding lanes and historic temples, culminating in a pre-dawn boat ride on the Ganges to witness the daily rituals performed by pilgrims. In the evening, we’ll experience the mesmerizing aarti ceremony at the river’s edge.
Today, we’ll travel by private bus to Nepal. Our route takes us across the northern plains before we reach the Saunali border, where we will walk through customs into Nepal. After crossing into the Terai region, we’ll drive to Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, where we will spend the night.
After breakfast, consider an optional rickshaw ride around the serene Lumbini gardens. Later, we’ll journey east towards Chitwan, arriving at the national park, formerly a royal hunting ground turned conservation area. You’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in local culture with an optional evening performance.
Chitwan National Park is home to a plethora of wildlife. Enjoy a jeep safari and a dug-out canoe excursion to explore the park’s diverse ecosystems. Keep an eye out for one-horned rhinos, deer, and a variety of bird species, all while being guided by experienced naturalists.
Departing Chitwan, we’ll travel to Pokhara, a scenic drive of about 87 miles (140 km). As we approach the Himalayas, the dramatic landscape shifts from lush forests to terraced hills, offering glimpses of the majestic Annapurna range. We’ll check into our hotel near Phewa Lake, with plenty of dining options nearby.
After breakfast, we’ll venture into the hills for stunning views of the Annapurna range. We’ll head to Sarangkot for one of the best vantage points. After taking in the breathtaking scenery, you can enjoy a leisurely afternoon by the lake, perhaps renting a boat or a bicycle to explore.
We’ll set off early for Kathmandu, a journey that takes around 10 to 12 hours. Despite the distance of 125 miles (200 km), the picturesque views along the way make it worthwhile. Upon arrival, we’ll check into our centrally located hotel.
Explore the vibrant city of Kathmandu today. You have the option to take an early morning scenic flight over the Himalayas, including Everest. Later, we’ll embark on a half-day tour of Pashupatinath Temple and Bodnath Stupa, followed by free time for individual exploration. Visit Durbar Square or Swayambhunath, and take advantage of the shopping and dining options available.
