Arrive in the Land of the Thunder Dragon and settle in. In the afternoon, visit the Paro Museum and one of Bhutan’s prominent Dzongs (fortress temples), getting a taste of Bhutanese history and architecture.
On your first full day, tick a major item off your bucket list by hiking to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery. Perched on a cliffside 900 meters above Paro Valley, this is one of Bhutan’s most revered and breathtaking sites.
Begin the day by cycling to Dochula Pass (3,100 m), known for its spiritual energy and 108 Chortens. After lunch, enjoy a thrilling descent down to the beautiful Punakha Valley.
Spend the morning visiting the magnificent Punakha Dzong and the fertility temple, Chhimi Lhakhang. Afterward, continue cycling to the nearby town of Wangdue, riding through the valley’s lush landscapes.
Enjoy a steady climb along the road connecting eastern and western Bhutan as you make your way to Trongsa, the historical heart of Bhutan and home to another impressive Dzong.
Cycle up to Yontong La Pass, before descending to Zungney. Afterward, tackle another ascent to Kiki La Pass, and enjoy a thrilling ride down to Jakar (also known as Bumthang), Bhutan’s spiritual heartland.
A relaxing day to explore the Bumthang Valley. Visit some of the valley’s Dzongs and Goembas (monasteries), and take in the peaceful surroundings before an afternoon of free time.
Head to the remote and scenic Tang Valley, one of Bumthang’s most beautiful and less-explored regions. Stay overnight at a guesthouse and visit a private museum that showcases Bhutanese artifacts.
Backtrack to the main road and climb up to Shirtung La Pass. From here, you have the option to descend via a single-track route to Ura Village or take the paved road down, with both paths offering spectacular views.
Climb to Bhutan’s highest motorable pass, Thrumshing La (3,798 m). After reaching the summit, enjoy a long, exhilarating descent down to the remote village of Sengor, nestled in the pristine Bhutanese wilderness.
Continue descending from 3,051 m to 579 m along the Kuru Chu River, only to climb back up to 1,590 m as you cycle towards the town of Mongar. The changing scenery from high passes to deep valleys makes for an exciting ride.
The day is a rollercoaster of ups and downs. Climb to Kori La Pass before descending to the Drangme Chu River. A final climb leads you to Trashigang, the gateway to eastern Bhutan.
Ride up to Yongphu La Pass at 2,544 meters and enjoy a scenic ride through eastern Bhutan’s picturesque landscape, ending in the charming town of Wamrong.
Your final pass comes at 2,388 meters, after which you will enjoy a thrilling descent of 3,080 meters all the way down to the border town of Samdrup Jongkhar, marking the end of your Bhutanese adventure.
Cross the Bhutan-India border and drive to Guwahati Airport in Assam for your departure, marking the conclusion of this incredible 15-day cycling adventure through Bhutan and into India.
