OVERVIEW

This 9-day Nepal and Bhutan tour offers an immersive cultural journey through two of South Asia’s most scenic and spiritually significant countries. Starting in Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, we will explore its historical and cultural UNESCO World Heritage Sites. From there, we fly to Bhutan, the Land of the Thunder Dragon, to discover its remarkable dzongs, temples, and cultural highlights. A memorable hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery and crossing of the scenic Dochu La pass are among the many highlights. After Bhutan, we return to Nepal to visit the ancient cities of Patan and Bhaktapur and conclude our journey with stunning views of the Himalayas from Nagarkot.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu, Nepal

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, a Himalayan Glacier representative will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner featuring authentic Nepalese cuisine.

Day 2: Sightseeing in Kathmandu

After breakfast, visit several UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu. Explore Kathmandu Durbar Square, which showcases the finest Nepalese art and architecture. Visit the Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath Temple, and the magnificent Boudhanath Stupa.

Day 3: Fly to Paro, Bhutan – Paro Sightseeing

Enjoy panoramic views of the Himalayas as we fly into Paro, Bhutan. After lunch, visit Rinpung Dzong (Fortress of the Heap of Jewels), Kichu Lhakhang (Bhutan’s oldest temple), and Drugyal Dzong (Bhutan Victory Fort). On a clear day, view Mount Chomolhari, Bhutan’s second-highest peak.

Day 4: Hike to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) Monastery – Drive to Thimphu

Begin the day with a hike to Taktsang Monastery, Bhutan’s most famous monastery perched on a cliff 900 meters above the Paro Valley. Enjoy lunch at the Cafeteria Restaurant midway through the hike. After exploring the monastery, drive to Thimphu for an overnight stay.

Day 5: Thimphu Sightseeing

Start the day with a hike to Wangditse Gompa, offering views of Tashichho Dzong and the Samtenling Palace. Visit the mini-zoo to see the takin, Bhutan’s national animal. In the afternoon, visit key cultural sites such as the King’s Memorial Chorten, the National Library, the National Institute of Traditional Medicine, and the Tashichho Dzong. Explore Thimphu’s local markets in the evening.

Day 6: Drive to Punakha via Dochu La Pass – Punakha Sightseeing

Drive to Dochu La Pass (3,100 m) and take a scenic hike to Lungchutse Monastery. After lunch, continue the drive downhill through forests and rice fields to visit the fertility temple Chimi Lhakhang. Overnight in Punakha.

Day 7: Hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten – Visit Punakha Dzong – Drive to Paro

Begin the day with a hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a beautiful hilltop shrine. Later, visit the historic Punakha Dzong before driving back to Paro for the night.

Day 8: Fly to Kathmandu – Visit Patan and Bhaktapur – Drive to Nagarkot

Return to Kathmandu and embark on a cultural tour of Patan and Bhaktapur, where you will explore ancient temples, palaces, and local markets. After sightseeing, drive to Nagarkot, renowned for its spectacular sunrise and sunset views of the Himalayas.

Day 9: Departure from Kathmandu

After breakfast, transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight home.
