Start the day with a climb to the top of Sigiriya’s Lion Rock Fortress, one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmarks. After breakfast back at the hotel, relax before heading to Muriya Kadawala village for a hands-on pottery experience, sampling a traditional herbal drink and local sweets. Explore the ancient ruins of Polonnaruwa by bicycle, visiting the royal palace, rock temple of Gal Vihara, and various stupas. Afterward, learn to cook Sri Lankan dhal curry and pol sambol with a local grandmother for lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a safari through Minneriya National Park, where you can spot elephants, pelicans, and monkeys in their natural habitat.
Travel to Kandy today, stopping at a spice garden in Matale to learn about Sri Lanka’s aromatic spices. In Kandy, visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, a significant Buddhist site housing a relic of Buddha’s tooth. Spend your evening at leisure, exploring Kandy’s tranquil lake or enjoying an optional cultural dance performance.
After breakfast, journey to Ambagasthenna village for an immersive tour led by Mr. Thilina, a local hotel and tea plantation owner. Walk through tea fields and learn about sustainable farming practices. Enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal with Mr. Thilina’s family, followed by sunset drinks with a stunning view of the landscape.
Board a scenic morning train to Nuwara Eliya, nestled in the heart of tea country at 1,800 meters above sea level. Take an orientation walk around Gregory Lake, and check into the historic Grand Hotel, your Feature Stay for the night. Enjoy a traditional high tea and marvel at the hotel’s sustainability efforts, including its zero-waste practices.
Depart Nuwara Eliya and visit a tea plantation and factory in Labukelle to learn about Sri Lanka’s famed tea production. Upon arrival in Colombo, your guide will lead an orientation walk, showcasing the city’s historic parliament building, the National Museum, and the best spots for souvenir shopping. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with your group at the Ceylon Curry Club, celebrating Sri Lankan cuisine.
